Training Paddles: Are they worth it?

A while back, I had come across a strange looking paddle. It was like the one pictured above. At first I thought it was a joke. But then I was told it was a training paddle A training paddle? Could it really make a difference?
My skepticism turned into shock when I realized that simply playing with these types of paddles could drastically improve your game. While they’re not designed for competitive play, training paddles can sharpen specific skills like hand speed, control, and timing. Think of them as resistance bands for your reflexes. These paddles are a little awkward at first, but game-changing over time. Whether you’re dialing in resets or building muscle memory for dinks, the right training paddle turns warm-ups into targeted reps. I’ve tested a few, and the difference shows up when the rallies get fast and tight. If you use this paddle and then go into a match, you won't have to think about your shots. You just hit the ball. And that should be the goal of every athlete.
Once you are able to play the sport without thinking, you can begin thinking about strategy and the game within the game. This is the school of thought that separates the average joes from the competition winners. And it all starts by playing with a practice paddle. Now I'm not saying that you should give up your regular paddle for a practice one. However, I do believe that by regularly spending time hitting with one, you will be able to increase your skills so that hitting the ball doesn't require thought. Once you achieve this, a whole new game of pickleball becomes available.
